Communities
Between communities
Finding other communities, borrowing their protocols, families joining clans, and carrying messages across.
Draft. This page is a preview of the new guide. Its illustrations are drafts still in review.
A community is private by default: no one outside it knows it exists. Everything on this page is something a community or a member chooses to do.

Separate communities, connected only where they choose to be.

- List yourselves, if you choose
- Discover others
- Adopt a protocol
- Carry messages another way
- Clans of families
- Partner
Six ways a community reaches beyond itself.
- List yourselves, if you choose. A community can make itself public: its name, description and tags are listed in the directory. Making it private again removes the listing. Projects can be listed on their own the same way (see Projects).
- Discover others. Discover in the sidebar browses the communities, projects and protocols other communities have listed.
- Adopt a protocol. From Discover you can adopt a protocol another community has published, rather than writing your own (see Protocols).
- Carry messages another way. Communities can use different relays. A member who's connected to another relay can offer, if they choose, to carry the community's traffic through it; it's never automatic. Messages carried this way stay sealed: the member carrying them can't read them (see Messages, relays and storage).
- Clans of families. Family communities can form a clan. A family asks to join, and the clan decides by motions: admitting a family, changing its rules, electing or removing custodians, expelling a family. Each family has one vote, cast by the family, not by each of its members. A clan can also offer its storage to its families.
- Partner. Two clans can link as chapters of each other. Each side's families vouch for how the two are related, and the link holds once both clans have accepted it, each after its own motion passes and its rules are met. Community apps can add their own partnerships too, such as Inzira's partners for investigations.
