Safety Scanner
A passive ambient scan for wireless devices nearby that behave like surveillance hardware.
This is the summer 2026 guide.
Some of it has changed since. A new guide (v1) is being written.
Safety Scanner
The Safety tab runs a passive ambient scan of wireless devices in the area. It does not require you to do anything — it runs whenever the tab is open. The scanner activates once you adopt the Community Safety protocol in Settings; until then the tab explains what it does and which protocol unlocks it.
The scanner watches for patterns that suggest surveillance hardware:
| Alert type | What it means |
|---|---|
| Passive sniffer | Device never advertises itself — only listens. Consistent with packet capture hardware. |
| Strong signal anomaly | Average signal strength well above what a consumer phone produces. Consistent with a directional antenna. |
| Persistent follower | Same device address observed across multiple separate time windows — it may be tracking your movement. |
| Sybil cluster | Many new devices appearing in a short window. Consistent with a coordinated presence, not natural market arrival. |
Status levels
The safety indicator at the top of the screen shows one of three states:
- Safe — no anomalies detected in recent scans
- Warning — one or more suspicious devices detected, monitoring continues
- Danger — one or more devices classified as hostile
If you see a Danger status, be aware of your surroundings. Consider moving to a different location before continuing any sensitive communication.
The scanner uses simulated BLE signals in the current version. Integration with real device radio APIs is planned for a future release. The threat classification logic is functional — the input data will improve.
