Isoko — Local Marketplace
How isoko works, and what the eight tabs on the mobile app are for.
This is the summer 2026 guide.
Some of it has changed since. A new guide (v1) is being written.
Isoko — Local Marketplace
Isoko means "market" in Kinyarwanda. The app lets you post listings, find things to buy, message sellers directly, and coordinate trades within your local network — the people you are connected to through the mesh.
Isoko ships as an Android app, and a lighter web version for when you don't have your phone.

How it works
Isoko does not have a central database of listings. When you post something, your listing is broadcast to the people you are directly connected to. Those people's devices hold a copy and share it further — like word of mouth, digitally.
This means:
- No server knows what you are selling.
- No company can suspend your listing.
- No platform takes a cut.
- Your listing reaches people in your network, not everyone on the internet.
The screens
Isoko has eight tabs at the bottom.
| Tab | What it does |
|---|---|
| Browse | See all listings that have reached your device from the network |
| Sell | Create and manage your own listings |
| Chats | Direct messages with buyers and sellers, including voice messages |
| Wallet | Payment records and your Community Credits balance |
| Deliveries | Step-by-step tracking of active trades with delivery protocols |
| Cells | Local market groups — trade circles for a neighbourhood or group |
| Safety | Ambient device scanner that flags suspicious wireless behaviour nearby |
| Settings | Identity, backup, relay configuration, and protocol adoption |
Not every feature is visible from the start. Isoko starts light — the Wallet's credit features, delivery tracking, voice messages, the reputation leaderboard, and the safety scanner unlock when you adopt the matching protocol. See Protocols below.
